Congratulations!

      The 67th Colorado State Spelling Bee was held Saturday, March 17, 2007, at the Colorado Convention Center.  288 students from all over the state of Colorado qualified for this event.  Of these, the top 36 spellers as determined by a morning written test qualified for the afternoon oral spelling bee.  Five of our Denver Public School spellers qualified for the state finals.  They were:

        Evan Shigaya, Hamilton Middle School (21st place)

              Evan spelled these words correctly:  acme, clementine, bayou, piazza, fuselage, escargot, exacerbate, and indebted before he went down on exquisite

        Kelsey Haberman, Morey Middle School, (21st place)

              Kelsey spelled these words correctly:  prairie, magnanimous, poi, dungaree, macadamia, cachet, einkorn, and casserole before she went down on provenance.

        Jacob West-Roberts, Morey Middle School, (13th place)

              Jacob spelled these words correctly:  biopsy, benefactor, greengage, nemesis, erudite, poinsettia, kohlrabi, hasten, interrogative, and spurious before he went down on ballyhooed.    

                Will Paton, Southmoor Elementary, (10th place)

              Will spelled these words correctly:  grotto, pacifism, exuberant, troika, bureaucracy, saurbraten, rottweiler, appendix, malicious, decibel, and ineluctable before he went down on munificence.

                 Alec Sarché, Hamilton Middle School, (10th place)

              Alec spelled the following words correctly:  fathom, tantalize, credenza, synonym, vigilante, Bolshevik, vorlage, monarch, terrestrial, pecuniary, and effulgent before he went down on sempiternal.
